Begin with the intended use
Describe who will use the product, where it will be sold and what problem it should solve. This context helps suppliers distinguish between options that may look similar but perform very differently.
Define the non negotiables
List the features that cannot change. This may include dimensions, materials, colour, packaging, compliance requirements or compatibility with another product. Separate these from preferences so that alternative proposals remain useful.

- Reference photos or drawings you have permission to use
- Required material, dimensions and finish
- Target date and an honest budget range
Use samples to make decisions
A sample should be reviewed against the same brief used to request it. Record what passes, what needs revision and who approved the decision. This creates a clear trail before production begins.
